A little story
about me
This is me: at home in my mother's garden, hair unbrushed, laughter, freckles, surrounded by books and dogs, writing poems and drinking coffee.
In my life I have been a school teacher, have made a feature film, have run a cinema, led a choir for retirees, have written plays for children, have danced with the deaf, have ridden horses, taken overnight trains, got knocked down and got back up again. I trained as a celebrant after the cinema I had been running closed due to Covid, and after I lost my dad. I believe that both joy and suffering are part of the human experience, and that we all of us have an innate need to find meaning in our lives.
A long time ago I studied French and German at university, where I was obliged to confront philosophical questions about the nature of the self. I was exposed to the thinkings of Blaise Pascal, who wrote, “All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone.” I can relate to that. These days I practise yoga and meditation to find what a school hymn once called the ‘still small voice of calm.’ But I do also enjoy watching Britain’s Got Talent and browsing the middle aisles at Aldi.
My role as your celebrant
The sort of clients who like to work with me are people who place a value on words; pragmatists and romantics, careful thinkers, appreciators of wit and of wisdom, people who take chances and make choices that they stand by. I have worked with people from all works of life, I deliberately don’t price myself to only do high-end weddings as there is richness to be found everywhere.
“Lara was the celebrant for our elopement in Palermo, Sicily and to say it was magical is an understatement. Lara crafted the most beautiful and thoughtful ceremony for us, it was so well tailored to us and our relationship.”
